A theme is a predefined combination of fonts, colors, and effects that can be applied to your presentation. Text and graphics automatically take on the size, colors, and placement defined by the theme, which means less manual work as you create individual slides.
PowerPoint Themes give your presentations a designer-quality look that includes one or more slide layouts with coordinating colors, a matching background, fonts, and effects. In comparison, a PowerPoint template is a blueprint of a slide or group of slides that you save as a .potx file. In short PowerPoint Templates (single slide) might not go with your PowerPoint theme as it might have its own layout and format.
We recommend that you download ready to use themes to save time and build engaging presentations. However, if you want to do it on your own, here is the process: In the Design tab, you can create a new theme with new theme colors, new theme fonts, and the effects. Start from the basic 'Office' theme, or pick another theme by clicking the down arrow, and then play with the details to customize it. If you go into View > Master Slide, you can also add other graphics, logos, etc. that will appear on every slide of that theme.

Hiding slides is useful when you have added slides that provide different levels of detail on the topic, perhaps for different audiences or situations.
